This week, David Labi from the Metropolis magazine in Japan, ran an article about the only kosher place to eat out in Japan- King Falafel.

In his unique ''short and sweet'' style he encourages people to come by and taste the heavenly Falafel, fresh salads and spreads.

Pinchas Eliyahu Edery, 7, peeling loads of carrots for Passover Seder at Laforet Hotel, Chabad Japan. A lot of patience and perseverance and the task was completed. Moshiach Edery, 12, working at the meat grinder, making the mix for the delicious meatballs served at the Passover Seder. To have kosher beef made in Japan, is no small task but well worth the outcome. Next Passover, hopefully in Jerusalem, in the Third Temple, we will serve Kosher Kobe Beef, made in Japan. Chaya Mushka Edery, 9, with the eggplant mound. Yes, tens and tens of kilos of eggplants for the wonderful eggplant dish served at the Passover Seder. Sholom Dovber Edery, the Kosher supervisor of Chabad House is peeking from the staircase, making sure no leaven comes in contact with the professional peelers.

The Passover Seders at Chabad Japan were a great success, with over 200 participants. All the guests were moved by the unity and happiness among everyone. It took a lot of logistics to get all the food (hot and cold), Matzos, wine, Hagaddot and all other necessities to the ballroom. Thank G-d, with the help of Chabad House staff, endless energy and devotion of Rabbi Edery and Rabbi Aldrich, all was well organized.

Special thank you to Rabbi Daniel Aldrich for doing such a fabulous job in leading the Seder so exceptionally. May Hashem bless you and Yael for all your efforts and sincere desire to bring G-dliness into this world.

Special thank you to all the Chabad House staff for their tireless efforts in making the Pesach Seders such a success. May G-d bless all those that helped with all blessings, both material and spiritual.

Passover Preparations 2013 at Chabad of Japan

Pesach preparations are in high gear. Handmade Shemura Matzos shipment arrived and was delivered to Chabad Japan. Special thanks to the generous donors of the Matzos. Passover is an expensive holiday world over, especially in Japan, after shipment, custom clearance, tax and duty, they are worth GOLD! Shmura Matza in Zohar is referred to as Matza of Faith and Matza of healing. By eating these Matzot on Passover it brings faith and healing both physically and spiritually to those that eat. People who live far out in Japan, receive Pesach Products Packages filled with Matza, wine, grapejuice, Passover cookies and other necessary products. This makes them very happy and take part in the Passover Holiday. Cases upon cases of wine and grape juice are loaded from Chabad Japan wine storage to the Chabad House ''Mitzvah Tank''. They are then unloaded at the Hotel Hall for the Passover Seder, and at Chabad House of Japan for the rest of the Passover Holiday. May G-d bless all those that donated generously towards the Matzot, wine and all other Passover necessities.

Jewish Wedding at Chabad Japan

This Sunday, Chabad Japan celebrated the wedding of Daniel and Lilach Shekoury, with great happiness. Rabbi Edery officiated at the Huppa. Family and friends came all the way from Israel for the wedding.

It was truly a moving sight to see, a Jewish couple committed to building their life together on the foundations of Torah and mitzvot , in a place physically so far out as Japan. That is exactly why the wedding was so meaningful not only to the bride and the groom but to all the guests who participated. There was great joy, dancing, singing,'' Kazatzkas'', by the young and old. Omedeto Gozaimashita.

Purim Celebration 2013 at Chabad Tokyo Japan, 24 hours of Constant Joy

Purim was non stop activities, with many people participating and joining in the mitzvot of Purim. The reading of the Megilla was done many times, by Rabbi Edery and Rabbi Meir Mergui who came to Japan for work, and took a big part in the Purim activities at Chabad Tokyo. Many Jewish people were able to hear the Megillah, even those that live at the far north of Tokyo, in the merit of the ''Megillah Readers'' who made a Megillah Reading Route to read to as many people as possible. The Purim feast at Chabad of Japan was one great happiness, special thanks to Rabbi Daniel and Yael Aldrich for bringing Mickey to make such superb entertainment. Hundreds of Hamantashen were handmade by the devoted Chabad House Bakers. They were a big hit and enjoyed by many all over Tokyo!

Chabad Japan Organizes Successful Tohoku Event in Iwanuma, Sendai

People of Tohoku enjoy the event organized by Rabbi Edery Chabad Tokyo Japan

This past Sunday Chabad of Japan organized a big event for the people affected by the Tsunami in Iwanuma, Sendai. There were many participants, including the mayor and many city officials who came to partake and show appreciation of the never ending support Rabbi Edery has given from the day after the Tsunami.

Special thanks to Akahigedo Shiatsu Clinic, located in Yoyogi for sending Shiatsu doctors to do healing for the people in the North.

Special thanks to Dassai Sake, Wadaman Sesame Company, and Sicilian Rouge Tomato Company for contributing generously to this event with the foods they produce.

One of the highlights of the event was Rabbi Edery's specialty ''Yakimo making'', and distribution. It is a Japanese delicacy : barbeque'd Sweet Potato, hot and delicious, filling and healthy.

Special thanks to the Wakabayashi's for facilitating the purchase of the Yakimo's.

We greatly appreciate Iwase san's donation of one ton of clothes and gifts which were distributed throughout the area.

May G-d bless all those who helped make this event a reality, starting from Muto san from Nord House Real Estate who ''gives it all he's got'' to be of assistance.

This Sunday Chabad Japan had a very successful women's get together in honor of Tu Beshevat. Special thanks to Adi Speigler for a fantastic job on the Shiatsu presentation. The women were involved and had a great time. Professor Pauline Reich gave a thourough and well researched talk, which was greatly appreciated by the women. The participants made fruit baskets to celebrate the special day of Tu Beshvat. It was a colorful and tasteful project that everyone enjoyed. Rebetzin Yael Aldrich gave the tone to the evening by enlightening us with the historical background of the day and the practical application and lessons for our day to day lives as Jews. Her eloquence and message left a deep impression and impact, Yeshar Koach!

''Roots and Fruits'' By Yael Aldrich

Tu B'Shvat is one of the four new years in the Jewish calendar. FOUR New Years? Yes, there are four - in Tishrei (the Rosh HaShana we all know with the shofar, apples and honey), the first of Elul, the New of the animals (in regards to the tithing process), the first of Nissan (the New Year in the calculation of the reign of Jewish kings and of the pilgrimage holidays of Sukkot, Shavuot, and Pesach), and the New Year of the trees, Tu B'Shvat. If I ask a random Jewish person what she knows about TuB'Shvat, there might be a blank stare or perhaps a remembrance of a Tu B'Shvat seder with red and white grape juice and dried fruit or the blue and white JNF (Keren Kayemeth L'Israel) tzedaka boxes and buying trees to "green" up Israel. But there is much more to the holiday and we can join this holiday to the vision that we as Jewish women have for our families, both nuclear and the greater Jewish family of which we are a part. Because this a holiday about trees we need to learn a little about what Judaism has to say about them. There are numerous laws dealing with agriculture in our religion, many of which even quite knowledgeable Jews know little of. When a person grows fruit-bearing crops in Israel, there is a requirement to tithe a percentage of the crop. In different years, different groups (cohanim, the poor, food to eat in Jerusalem) get portions of this tithe. Tu B'Shvat is the cut off point for determining to whom the tithes are directed. If a tree has begun the process of bearing fruit (the flower petals have fallen off and the fruit bud is visible) before Tu'B'Shvat, its future crop will be counted for tithing with the previous year. These same trees have another set of laws that the Jewish farmer must observe. The fruit from a fruit tree anywhere in the world must go through three complete growth cycles from its planting before we can enjoy them. If a tree is planted we have to wait until the Tu B'Shvat after its third year to utilize the fruit. The ancient Rabbis declared this time of year to be the delineation between years for fruit because in Israel, the rains have (hopefully) been coming down for a couple of months and trees planted then should be able to take root and thrive. Now, what does this have to do with the Jewish family? We, as Jewish women, have been given the amazing opportunity to nurture the people around us to achieve greatness in becoming better human beings. Like the farmer with his orchard, we have children, friends, spouses, and especially ourselves to encourage to greater heights in spirituality and closeness to G-d. Like the fruit trees, we have certain seasons in which we have to give our gifts to various people in our lives Some years we support our spouses to work on our marriages with us, some years we encourage our children to embrace Jewish learning, some years we focus on friends and loved ones and some years it is our turn to look into our lives and figure out how we can grow Jewishly. We must toil to enrich the ground in which we are all planted with love, happiness and connection to our Jewish roots to ensure the future fruits are plentiful and sweet. Sometimes it is years before we can see that the hard work we did has sprouted strong roots and branches. But with our labor and G-d's help, we will see the successful results from the people around us. Then we can enjoy these fruits after they are ripe and ready, then thank G-d, as we say in the Birkat Hamazon, "and you shall eat and be satisfied and bless the L-rd your G-d for the good land which He has given you."
